Every RV park in the Permian Basin is packed right now due to the amount of workers working in the oil field. Most people are complaining that there isn’t anything to do out here.

If you like the outdoors, this is a great place to live and work. Especially if you’re staying in an RV out here. You can just hitch it up and head out to the mountains to do a little RV boondocking.

Some great places to visit are Big Bend National Park, Guadalupe Mountains National Park, Big Bend Ranch State Park and the Carlsbad Caverns area. There’s even a little hiking in the Davis Mountains, just a couple hours away from Midland/Odessa.

Just make sure you’re well supplied with things like food and propane and hit the road.  You can find some great places to stop on websites like www.treksw.com and others. You should also think about learning some good campfire cooking recipes to really up your game.

Most of the places we mentioned above are within a three to four hour drive from your RV Park in the Permian Basin. You can leave on a Friday after work and be back on a Sunday evening with plenty of time to hike some trails, build a big camp fire and to relax and enjoy the mountains.

Just remember, when RV boondocking, the air conditioners in your RV aren’t going to work without a generator (you can pick one up at Sams for about $1,000 though).  So, you’re not going to want to hang out inside that much. Just open all the windows and wait for night-fall. Luckily, this is the desert and temperatures can drop dramatically at night, cooling it off enough for you to get a good night’s rest.
